Last night I was really craving a bottle of mango smoothie juice I had bought earlier. Since I usually avoid keeping things at home that I find hard to consume in normal amounts, I rarely buy juice at all. But last night the craving was strong — I almost gave in just to drink it.
What helped me resist was two things. First, I didn’t want to fall back into old habits (and yes, considering that my progress so far hasn’t exactly been impressive, one might think that I don’t feel much pressure to stay on track — but the truth is, if I didn’t have this blog to hold me accountable, things would probably be going even worse). Second, I tried to focus on the thought that the juice would still be there tomorrow — and how good it would taste in the morning.
Even such a small victory feels like a big one to me. Self-discipline and the ability to delay gratification might just be the path to real success, so I’m happy about last night — and that today went well.
Tomorrow will bring new temptations, but also new chances to choose better.
